Essential Air Travel Tips

Air travel can be daunting, especially if like me you’re not a great flier. Here are some of my tips for making your Air Travel less intimidating, allowing you to relax and really enjoy your holiday.

Pack Early!

This may seem like an obvious one, but it can’t be said enough how much of a difference this can make. Packing absolutely everything (at least the night before you fly) really will help to reduce your stress levels and let you relax. Once you know that everything you need for your holiday is stowed away, you can cross one more thing off your list and save yourself from any last minute packing woes.

Keep All Your Essentials to Hand

Keeping all your tickets and travel documents in an easy to access location can really help to improve your boarding and security experiences. This will stop any frantic searches for passports or boarding passes and will keep you relaxed about one more thing. Keeping all your essentials to hand will also help cut short any panics about lost tickets which can only make any flying nerves worse!

Get There with Plenty of Time to Spare

Cutting down on all your other sources of stress will help to keep you calm about the flight itself and getting to the airport or your gate early will do wonders. It’s never worth leaving things to the last minutes, as this will only leave you frazzled and in a panic. Get to the airport as early as you can, check-in, make your way through security and then relax, you’re practically there. Keep an eye or ear open for when your gate is announced and make your way over as soon as you can. A little time spent twiddling your thumbs at your gate is more than worth the cost of a mad dash through the airport.

Try a Herbal Remedy

There are loads of herbal remedies that can help to keep you calm and collected on your flight, and these will help you to avoid the pesky tiredness that can come with a prescription. A cup of camomile tea or a capsule of St John’s Wort can do wonders to soothe your nerves. It’s always best to avoid any caffeine or alcohol as well, as these can make it more difficult for you to relax on your flight. Herbal remedies can really make the difference, but make sure to check with your doctor before taking any remedies!

Familiarise Yourself with Plane Sounds

In my experience, one of the most stressful moments in flying can be when the plane starts making unusual or unexpected sounds, especially on take-off. It is worth taking the time to familiarise yourself with the sounds that planes make, that way you’ll never be surprised or concerned by any noises. Watching some videos of planes taking-off can be a quick and easy way to familiarise yourself with these sounds and avoid any unwanted panics mid-flight.
